The East Bay Fields initiative is a broad coalition of youth Soccer Clubs coming together to promote and develop sports field complexes in the East Bay. The goal is to develop or to expand five to six sites in the East Bay. Each site will have three to five turf fields for year round play.

Alameda Point fields is the first collaboration. East Bay Fields is in contact with East Bay governmental agencies to develop other locations. Exciting days ahead!

Fields and parks in the Greater Oakland area are in very poor condition, preventing children from tapping into their full mental and physical potential. There simply are not enough regulation-sized, quality athletic fields to serve the number of youth soccer teams and leagues in the Greater Oakland area. Of Oakland’s 53 athletic fields, only 10 are regulation length, and only one is a turf field available year-round. Alameda only has one publicly accessible turf field, which is coveted by many youth sports teams all year long and especially during the wet, rainy months for practice and games. As a result, it is not uncommon for local youth soccer teams to practice on tennis and basketball courts when there is no available field space. San Francisco and other Bay Area communities have successfully developed much needed soccer fields, and the same is possible in greater Oakland!

To build upon the scale, diversity, and resources of its member youth soccer clubs, East Bay Fields is being led by the Jack London Youth Soccer League (JLYSL) - a non-profit entity formed more than 40 years ago and now serving over 7,000 youth soccer players. East Bay Fields is working with local governments and recreation departments to identify places where Public-Private Partnerships can unlock funds for field improvements.

East Bay Fields has already identified several sites for field improvement projects, and a great example of the vision is the plan for the improved Alameda Point (AP) soccer field complex, which currently hosts about 900 matches per year, or about 40% of all Jack London Youth Soccer League matches! The proposed AP soccer field complex plan will be the first field improvement project implemented.

Please see the design renderings for what could be achieved on Alameda Point. A skilled team of permitting, engineering, safety, and construction experts is being consulted already by Jack London Youth Soccer League to ensure the proper plans and budgets going forward.
