Alameda Point Fields

East Bay Field’s first improvement project will take place on the site of the 9.35-acre Alameda Point Fields, located within the old Alameda Point Navy bases in the City of Alameda. The existing soccer fields are laid out on a natural grass field that is mostly dirt and crabgrass and which are surrounded by poorly maintained Chinese elm trees, large areas of unused planting strips, and a concrete pathway that has multiple cracks and patches. There is no automatic irrigation system at these fields, so most of the watering is done by an above ground sprinkler during the day time, which is not ideal, especially in an extreme drought. The field lighting is currently powered by diesel fuel. Many Jack London Youth Soccer League teams use these fields during the week for practice, and the fields host about 900 matches annually, or about 40% of the League’s matches, mainly on weekends.
